HOW DOES IT WORK
Since the coating surface will come in direct contact with flame, a char enhancer was added to form a small char on the surface. This is not an intumescent coating, but instead, a pliable film that reacts to flame. When the char forms, it brings the ceramics up and into the char to allow the char to be tough and remain in place during actual fire conditions.
Superior Products International has been experimenting with and developing the uses of "insulation and fire protection" ceramics for over 10 years. This category of ceramic functionality is new to the engineering fields. Only in recent years has the idea of insulation been associated with this new breed of ceramics. DESCRIPTION
HONEST FIRE is a one-component coating having a blend of eight different ceramics combined in a water-based formula to create a barrier against extreme flame impingement and heat migration. The coating can withstand direct flame up to 2000F (1093oC) by hardening on the surface at first contact, while continuing to provide the necessary insulation value. The resin blend binds the compounds together and forms a char to matrix the ceramics across the face of the coating, facing the flame. HONEST FIRE is designed to stay intact with constant adhesion at extreme temperatures while remaining flexible. It is applied over HOT PIPE COATING to create a system to use over structural steel. HONEST FIRE can be applied to metal, concrete, masonry, and composite surfaces. The application can be by spray or by trowel. For specific instructions on surface preparation, mixing and application, please refer to the SPE Application Instruction sheet for HOT PIPE COATING and HONEST FIRE.
